Choosing a Major
As a student, you will have several decisions to make during your time at university – Which classes should you take? Which clubs and organizations should you join? Should you find outside employment? For many, one of the most difficult decisions is choosing a major. The path to choosing a major will be different for different people; some students already have an idea about what they want to major in, while others need time to investigate their many options before making the decision.
It’s important to remember that discovering YOUR major is a process, one that is entirely yours to complete. It may take a few semesters of study to pick what you want as a career. Some students arrive at university knowing exactly what they want to do and where they want to go. Others need simply need to take an introductory course in a subject to tell them what they need to know. It may take other students several semesters of research to finally figure out what they want to do for a career. Whatever your process, ATU’s academic and career advisors are here to help along the way.
This section provides you with some ideas of how to start choosing a major and how to prepare for it once you decide.
